SLEEP = GAINZ - Why All Protagonists Sleep A lot

There's a reason Goku and all other shonen protagonists sleep so much: gainz.

The first thing people neglect with their health from my experience tends to be sleep, it also seems to be the last thing anybody fixes. This is a mistake.

 

Not only does not sleeping enough disregulate your hunger hormones leptin and ghrelin, but your body also starts primarily eating muscle for fuel.

 

Take this study from Annals of internal medicine titled ‘insufficient sleep undermines dietary efforts to improve adiposity’.

 

>Took two groups (A & B)

 

>Both groups fed the same calories and macro-nutrients

 

>Both groups had the same energy expenditure

 

>They were placed on a 700 calorie deficit to lose weight 

 

>Group A had 5.5 hours sleep a night, group B had 8.5 hours sleep a night 

 

>After 3 months group A and group B had their sleep schedule swapped for control

 

Subjects who had 8.5 hours sleep lost a 50/50 split between their fat and lean mass, subjects who had 5.5 hours sleep lost 80% lean mass and only 20% fat mass. That’s utterly shocking, just by manipulating sleep.

 

So if you don’t want to sabotage your dieting efforts get your fill of sleep. 7-9 hours every night and try to wake up at the same time. We haven’t even gone into all the positive mood and performance benefits, if you’re used to only sleeping 6 hours or less you’ll feel like a new person after a while

 

Sleep like a protagonist, be more shonen
