A Lazy Way Of Healthy Eating: Low Stress Diet Strategies For A Saiyan

A big hurdle when people adopt a fitness lifestyle is that they equate 'healthy' with 'fat loss' & get discouraged when their efforts don't translate to the scale. To lose weight you need to take in less energy than you expend, you have to be mindful of your caloric intake. You don't necessarily have to count calories, but you need to have some awareness of the energy content of food. For example:

Healthy food doesn't mean weight loss food - an anime fans guide to sneaky calories in food

As you can see a lot of healthy options are loaded with calories. Healthy or not, if you eat too many calories you will gain weight. Misunderstanding calories is the biggest hurdle to anybody wishing to lose weight in my experience.

For example: Pizza is my favourite food. If I was told that to have a 6 pack I’d have to give up pizza forever I’d be content with being FatKu for the rest of my days. As you can see that is not the case, I found a way of fitting it in my diet whilst keeping my abs. I do this by finding ways of fitting the pizza into my calories. As it's quite calorically dense this either involves eating smaller portions of it or not eating much throughout the day to save my calories for the pizza.

This does require me to be quite strict most of the time and I try to track my calories every day. That tends to be intimidating for a lot of people, especially when they're first starting out. So for those that want a simplified approach, try this:

-3 square meals a day at a similar time each day just consisting of healthy doses of lean protein and plenty of vegetables. Limit or eradicate heavy dressing and oils, avoid high calorie 'health' foods like nuts and dried fruit. Perhaps include a whole fruit after each meal as a desert.

-3 times a week swap one of those meals for a sensible indulgence.
What do I define as sensible? If you go to Dominoes for dinner just have the pizza. Don’t have the wedges, the ice cream, chicken strips, and any other bullshit. Be reasonable.

-No snacking or drinking liquid calories in between your 3 square meals

That way your diet is packed with healthy fruits and vegetables, protein, and you also don't have to give up your favourite foods. Choose the 3 days you're most likely to indulge (like the weekends) as your 3 days to treat yourself.

This method works pretty well for those who are first starting and have a lot of weight to lose. However if you want to be ripped, jacked, shredded or whatever then this method may fall a little short. For example, following this method I can maintain around 18% body-fat easily and with very little stress. To get any lower I have to begin consciously counting calories.

If you have the will I will always primarily recommend counting calories. However, this method is a great start and if coupled with a raise in daily activity and a weight training program it could honestly change your life.

That’s all for now guys. Be More Shonen.
