No DragonBalls, Just One Life - Stoicism and Anime
There are no Dragon Balls
One shot guys, that’s all we have in this life. All too many of us outsource what we want to external forces be it unhappy relationships, terrible jobs, and unfulfilling activities as if we’re gonna get a second chance. We’re not. Nobody is going to wish us back for a second round, this is your shot.
An act of stoicism is to recite the phrase ‘Memento Mori’ which means ‘know that you will die’. Our time on earth may be the longest thing we do, but it’s also finite. Live it up, do what you were put on this earth to do, be the best that you can be, and get into a position where you're not spending your precious time 'half-living'.
Make yourself the protagonist of your own story. It doesn’t have to be anything larger than life like saving the world, maybe just saving yourself will be enough.
