The Scientific Support For Goku's Mindset: Optimism Is The Key

Optimism is more important than ever right now, you might want to face life like Goku rather than Vegeta for the time being. Forever, if you ask me.

Optimism has been consistently shown in the scientific literature to be beneficial against chronic and infectious diseases.

Although emotion based, and perhaps counter-intuitive, positive outlooks provide the foundation for intellectual functioning and resilience during a crisis. This makes optimism and hope both critical for solutions against diseases.

Please don’t take my word for it, I’m not a doctor or a brilliant scientist:

➤ Schiavon CC, et al. Optimism and Hope in Chronic Disease: A Systematic Review. Front Psychol. 2017 Jan 4;7:2022.

“From our analysis of the articles that met our inclusion criteria, it appears that the study of these constructs is recent and there is evidence that individuals with greater optimism and hope seek to engage in healthier behaviours regardless of their clinical status, and that this contributes to chronic disease treatment”

➤ Boldor N, et al. Optimism of health care workers during a disaster: a review of the literature. Emerg Health Threats J. 2012;5.

“Based on the literature, optimism was found to be helpful both in daily medical work and in cases of medical emergencies. Optimism was also revealed one of the key components of resilience and self-efficacy.”

Don’t overlook the power of hope and mindset, focussing on the positive gets you much further in life than focussing on the negative. DragonBall taught us this with Goku and Vegeta, I think it's an important lesson to learn.

Stay positive, stay healthy, and Be More Shonen
